Currently In Rotation (Featuring Music by Emoh Instead, S-Type, Sango & More)

I’ve been backed up with busy work the past couple of days so I thought about posting brief reviews on songs that have recently dropped and have been played through my speakers on a frequent basis.

This new segment will be called Currently In Rotation and will provide new tunes from the past month that I’ve been listening to but haven’t done a proper write up for.

Jamie Lidell “What A Shame” (S-Type Remix)

I wasn’t entirely familiar with LuckyMe musician S-Type until hearing this lavish remix of “What A Shame” originally by Jamie Lidell, but I now completely understand why he is on their label; he brings a massive production style to the table that will blow you way, just like some other acts on the roster would do. S-Type is set to hit the road alongside Baauer, DJ Mustard and Araabmuzik very soon, so keep your eyes peeled for tour dates. Great remix, check it out above.

Emoh Instead “Why Can’t You (Say So…)”

Half of the Sydney, Australia based duo What So Not / the homie Chris ‘Emoh Instead‘ is set to release his debut solo EP [Say So EP] through Sweat it Out on October 18th. The two song project is highly anticipated for us here at skoodmusic, not only because he is a mastermind musician but also because we’ve chatted with him numerous time and have even sat down for an Exclusive interview with the upcoming producer at one point. Both singles from the forthcoming project have been released but personally i enjoy “Why Can’t You (Say So…)” a little more due it it’s Flume-like heavy synths and overall woozy vibes that will have you floating on cloud 9 by the end of the new release.

Kaytranada “At All” (Sango Remix)

Mad chilled out remix of Kaytranada’s recent banger “At All” by Soulection artist, Sango. This new cut is featured on Kaytranada’s At All / Hilarity Duff EP that was released via HW&W Recordings a couple days back. Tight little three-song project that featured a new song, “Hilarity Duff” along with this remix and the original version. Check it out above.

Pazz Cherofoot “Terib”

Up next is a trill up and comer named Pazz Cherofoot who produces glamorously versatile instrumentals. Sometimes he leans more in the direction of lo-fi / chillwave / downtempo sub-genres and other times (like this release) he’ll create furiously hard-hitting trippy joints that sound like something Danny Brown or A$AP Rocky would be eager to spit over. Click the play button.

 Kavinsky “Nightcall “(London Grammar cover)

Simply an amazing cover; London Grammar put their own beautifully unique twist on Kavinsky‘s instant-classic (with help from the Drive soundtrack, obviously). Listen above.

Curren$y “Rapper Weed” (Black Noi$e & BK Beats Remix)

A little late on the drop for this joint, but Black Noi$e and BK Beats really brought the heat for on their remix (smoking-related joke for the JetLife enthusiasts). This smooth organ-filled remake of Curren$y’s track “Rapper Weed” sounds better than the original in my opinion – even if they had an ill sample laid down the first time around, these two put a much cleaner touch on their version and created a masterpiece. Peep.

What So Not “High Are You” (Branchez Remix)

Remember Branchez, that dude who crafted the dopest possible re-make of Rihanna’s radio-friendly hit “Stay” ? Well he is back with another bouncy trap-induced remix for What So Not‘s New remix EP that was released through OWSLA three days back. Listen to the new re-work by Branchez, you will not be disappointed.

Zu Haven “Grizzle” Prod. by RAF COMP

Last but not least we have “Grizzle” by Zu Haven with production by the homie RAF COMP. This perfectly polished instrumental features strategically placed drum sounds [that go in] and a synth line that will stay in your head for the rest of the weekend. Keep an eye on Zu Haven and his future releases by following him on Soundcloud. A good song to end this post on, listen to it above. Chill shit.
