Exciting news from the West Coast today! We are getting a treat courtesy of DJ Troublemaker, who is one-half of California gangster-rap outfit King Fantastic. These guys have been making a lot of noise in the game (not quite as much recently due to the incarceration of rapper Killer Reese One last February for reasons we have been unable to dig up.) However this has not stopped them from gaining momentum and Reese’s release (from prison) in March of next year is highly anticipated.
Their critically acclaimed debut album Finger Snaps and Gun Claps was released in June 2010 and spawned the single “Why? Where? What?” and subsequent music video that features adult film star Kristina Rose. The album is an underground sensation and I would go as far as to say an instant classic. The duo blends well-versed L.A. rap vocals with electronic beats as well as chilled out California guitars. The music is described as “a concise study in west coast synthesizer beach bum gangster music as interpreted by Killer Reese One and Troublemaker” and boy do they hit that nail on the head.
Today, in the spirit of Johnny Cash, we get a recording of Reese straight from the California Department of Corrections.
