There are many speculations to be made about New Zealand up-and-comer Lorde. Her recent smash hit “Royals” which is sitting pretty at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 right now, has catapulted her into the spotlight.
The 16 year old’s debut album Pure Heroine is set to be released on September 30th, but can be streamed (courtesy of VH1) here.
Fans of Lana Del Rey will vibe with this album, which is a mixture of melancholy pop, nostalgia anthems, and hints of elegance infused with hip-hop demeanor and delivery. The album is catchy, and in a way, captures the attitude of many young people today.
The album’s title may throw some people off (we found the idea of it to be a little sketchy) but I would care to offer that the idea of the album’s title and lyrical content is more of a fantasy, rather than a reality (but who knows?) The album’s title is a clever play on words. Notice the ‘e’ at the end of Heroine (as in a female hero) not to be confused with heroin (the drug.) Regardless, Lorde seems to be gaining quite a bit of popularity and we are interested to see what she does next.
